Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

Octomber 1, A.D. 2007

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Zechariah 8:1-8
Psalm 102:16-18, 19-21, 29 and 22-23

A reflection on today's Scripture:

Today we honor our "Little Flower," St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus!

The Gospel of today is an interesting choice by the Church. It is the one where Christ calls a child to His side, and lovingly reminds us that "Whomever receives this child, receives Me." (Luke 9:48) Unless people really study Thérèsian spirituality, they sometimes equate her with childlike weakness and "sticky sweet" views on life in general. That is not our Thérèse!

Though she never left the confines of her Carmelite cloister, the power of Thérèse was and is felt around the world. She is the patroness of missions. Her "little way" that she taught all of us takes a fierce self-discipline.

It is not easy to see Christ in everyone and all circumstances of our lives! It is not easy to admit that we do not have the spiritual strength to accomplish what God has in store for us and that we need Him to bolster our efforts, or help us to the "next step" as she would say. Today is a great time to pause and thank Saint Thérèse for sharing her spiritual wisdom.

Saint Thérèse, pray for us!
