Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

September 27, A.D. 2007

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Haggai 1:1-8
Psalm 149:1b-2, 3-4, 5-6a and 9b
Luke 9:7-9

A reflection on today's Scripture:

If we didn't know any better we would probably say nowadays: "Who is that guy?"

Herod was perplexed. That Man was healing demoniacs and the sick, and had just raised a child from the dead! And now, He had given twelve of his followers authority to do the same and now they were proclaiming the Kingdom of God and curing diseases everywhere!

This miraculous healer was now so close to Herod, that he could touch Him. But his curiosity remained unsatisfied. Still, Herod wanted to see him. "Who then, is this about whom I hear such things?" Was Herod searching for truth—or were the rumors getting the best of his curiosity?

Our search for the Truth must embrace what Herod's did not: an unwavering faith. For it is from those examples set by our Master Teacher that we learn what we must do to satisfy God's will and obtain Heaven as our eternal life.

Ohh, poor Herod, that Guy you were so curious about . . . He was God who became man—in a visible form—the Messiah! But you were not convinced.

He was for you and is for us—a Savior; the Savior; our Savior!
