Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

September 25, A.D. 2007

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Ezra 6:7-8, 12b, 14-20
Psalm 122:1-5
Luke 8:19-21

A reflection on today's Scripture:

My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God
and act on it. (Luke 8:21)

The concept of family is sacred; it is the very essence of God in three persons, a life-giving union of Father, Son and the Holy Spirit of love and truth Who binds them together as One. God Who is infinite and eternal Love created humanity to share His blessed life with us, that we might become His children.

From the beginning, however, man, inebriated by his many divine gifts and his free will, opted for independence from the authority of his divine Creator and proceeded to re-create himself in his own image.

Ezra was one among the many prophets sent by God to reveal to His people their errors and to warn them that by rejecting and separating themselves from His love and truths, not He, but they, would bring suffering upon themselves.

When human prophets proved incapable of bringing about lasting, beneficial changes in His people's behavior, God sent them His Son, His Divine Word made incarnate in Christ Jesus.

In Him God not only revealed that a fully human man could live in His love and truth, but that through faith in Jesus, their obedient love to God's Word, they could be transformed in Christ's image, enabled to participate in the very virtues that constitute God's love.

Those who through prayer come to know God in Christ and obey their Creator's Word of Life will be adopted as true children of God and brothers and sisters of Christ.

O Blessed Lord, all goodness, justice is Yours. Fill us with the desire to sincerely learn from You to participate in Your perfect goodness and so create a blessed, peaceful world. Amen.
