Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
September 24, A.D. 2007
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Psalm 126:1b-2ab, 2cd-3, 4-5, 6
A reflection on today's Scripture:
Light seems to be the theme of the readings today.
In the first reading King Cyrus of Persia was inspired by God to build a house of God in Jerusalem (Ezekiel 1:1-6). All these many years later we have our "houses of God" spread throughout the world.
In the Gospel reading, Christ states the fact that no one who lights a lamp, keeps it concealed, but rather sets it on a lampstand for all to see. (Luke 8:16-18)
Our Catholic churches house the Light of the World 24x7 in the tabernacle. Many churches have had to lock their doors other than at times services are underway, and yet many remain open during the day. What an opportunity for us to spend some quiet time alone before the tabernacle! What better way to keep our light, the light of faith, burning brightly!
