Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Psalm 62:6-7, 9
A reflection on today's Scripture:
In today’s powerful Gospel we learn that on the Sabbath Christ went to the synagogue to teach. (Luke 6:6)
At this time of year, supervisors of religious education programs are scurrying around trying to find persons willing to teach the children about their faith. We learn just from that statement that, yes, many of us have an obligation to teach. Even God Himself went to the effort of formally teaching others about their religion.
We also note that, all these centuries later, it is not the words of the formal lesson of the day that has been passed down to us, but rather the example of Christ. He chose to cure a person on the Sabbath, which some believed was forbidden. There are times when we must take a risk to do what is right. That is the true test of our beliefs, and will be remembered by others. Let's hope that we all pass that test!
