Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

September 3, A.D. 2007

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
Psalm 96:1 and 3, 4-5, 11-12, 13
Luke 4:16-30

A reflection on today's Scripture:

What a beautiful and inspiring image of Christ in the Gospel for today!

He walks into the synagogue on the Sabbath and is handed a passage from scripture. "This day this reading has been fulfilled, He said." For a while His native villagers were impressed with Him, but when it became obvious that He was not going to give them what they wanted, they tried to destroy Him. (see Luke 4:16-30)

Though the reading is rich in messages, let us focus on just one point. Most everyone has felt from time to time that they were not appreciated by their friends, family, and/or co-workers. A person might be tempted to become depressed, or cut back on their activities, their performance. That is not what we see in Christ. He continued His Father's mission, even to the point of death for us.

Life is very hard at times, but in the end times we will know that it was all worth it. If we are following the holy way of Christ, we can know that He is behind us all the way, and in fact sometimes He is carrying us. What more do we need?
