Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
August 30, A.D. 2007
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
1 Thessalonians 3:7-13
Psalm 90:3-5a, 12-13, 14 and 17
A reflection on today's Scripture:
What thanksgiving, then, can we render to God for you, for all the joy we feel on your account before our God? (see Thessalonians 3:9)
These are the questions that Saint Paul is asking the Thessalonians. We too must ask ourselves this question. Do we live our lives in thanksgiving for the wonderful gifts the Lord has given us? Do we give a helping hand, speak a kind word, share our time--to those around us?
This is what Jesus is talking about in the Gospel of St. Matthew: “Who, then, is the faithful and prudent servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household to distribute to them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master on his arrival finds doing so.” (Mt 24:45-46)
We honestly don’t know how long any of us have time remaining on this planet. God has given us time to make reparation for our sins, time to love God, time to honor Him though our actions to everyone.
So, let us be prepared for when The Master comes to call us, by using the gifts He has given us--time, talents, substance and opportunity--for the sanctification of ourselves and others.
