Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

August 10, A.D. 2007

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

2 Corinthians 9:6-10
Psalm Ps 112:1-2, 5-6, 7-8, 9
John 12:24-26

A reflection on today's Scripture:

Today’s readings collectively talk about generosity as an attribute associated with spiritual growth, yet not only generosity but the attitude that most favorably accompanies it—cheerfulness.

Cheerfulness comes into play because it is an outgrowth of trust in God that He will provide even if we seem to be running out of something to give.

One who thinks he has little might get stingy and be reluctant to give away what little he has. If, however, he recognizes that all that is good comes from God and that God has abundant stores for His faithful stewards to distribute, then generosity and cheerfulness become quite easy.

Let us examine ourselves in light of our willingness to be generous—generous with our time, generous with our talent, generous with our treasure.

"The one who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food
will supply and multiply your seed
and increase the harvest of your righteousness." (2 Cor. 9:10)
