Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

August 6, A.D. 2007

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14
Psalm Ps 97:1-2, 5-6, 9
2 Peter 1:16-19
Luke 9:28b-36

A reflection on today's Scripture:

Today we celebrate the beautiful feast of the Transfiguration!

We visualize Christ taking Peter, John and James up the mountain. The three apostles were fatigued and fell asleep. When they woke up they all saw Christ in His transfigured state speaking with Moses and Elijah! They had been discussing the exodus He was to accomplish in Jerusalem. They also heard "This is my chosen Son, listen to Him." (Luke 9:35)

This is an important message: "Listen to Him!"

In our educational programs today we take reading, writing, math, keyboarding, etc. We do not have courses in listening, and yet that is at least half of communication. It is hard, if not impossible to communicate with someone who is not listening at all, or giving you only part of their attention.

Christ must get frustrated with us! He loves us so much, and wants to become one with each of us, but it is hard if we are not being attentive to Him. Peace and quiet are so important!

Let us be able to say, "Speak Lord, your servant is listening!"
