Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

July 18, A.D. 2007

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Exodus 3:1-6, 9-12
Psalm 103:1b-2, 3-4, 6-7
Matthew 11:25-27

A reflection on today's Scripture:

You have revealed them to the childlike. (see Matthew 11-25)

Have you ever noticed how many modern theologians don't seem to have a clue? They attend things like the "Jesus Seminar" and presume to pronounce on the accuracy of the scriptures and of the statements attributed to Jesus. Many scientists think they can explain the whole universe without God, and other intellectuals find that they have no need of God.

It's not that God doesn't speak to those of vast intelligence, but that often they are too full of themselves to hear His voice, even when He's shouting. No, God's message is reserved to those who agree to listen, to those who are childlike, sitting at His feet ready to receive what He has for them.

God reveals Himself to those who trust and love, be they wise in the way of the world or simple. He cannot reveal Himself to those who are too full of themselves because He will not shout to be heard—He will only approach in gentleness, with love.
