Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

July 11, A.D. 2007

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Genesis 41:55-57; 42:5-7a, 17-24a
Psalm 33:2-3, 10-11, 18-19
Matthew 10:1-7

A reflection on today's Scripture:

The Kingdom of Heaven is at Hand. (Matthew 10:7)

The Kingdom of heaven, the kingdom of God, is not some extra-dimensional eternity, not some lost in the clouds place, not some place without substance or possibility. The Kingdom of heaven is at hand. It is here among us now. It is present as we are present to each other and to God. It is present whenever anyone says His name. It is present whenever anyone reaches out to help a neighbor. It is present in the love of a mother for her children and a love of a husband for his wife.

The kingdom of heaven is the Kingdom of God, and it is necessarily present where He is present. The Kingdom is coextensive with God and God is omnipresent, so the Kingdom of God is at hand, right here, right now.

Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His Righteousness . . . . Love and be loved. Be present to the Lord, and God will make manifest through you the kingdom. For another person, you become the gate into the Kingdom.
