Psalm 23:1-3a, 3b-4, 5, 6
Romans 5:5b-11
Luke 15:3-7

A reflection on today's Scripture:

Today on the solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus we have beautiful Scripture selections that tell us about how God is for us a shepherd who cares and tends to our needs with great solicitude, patience and love.

It is striking that though it seems our ³tending² has been left in the hands of others who have sometimes led us astray, in the final analysis, God will rescue us. Certainly it would have been better if we never wandered, got into danger or trouble, but the reality is that we have! What we know however is that God Himself will set things right‹find us, bind up our wounds and take over where others might have failed.

Do you relate to these images? Have you yourself not wished that important things were not left to the care and discretion of just anybody, but overseen by an expert‹someone who really knows what he¹s doing and above all cares that things are done exactly right?

This is the modern-day application that the today¹s scripture elicits for me. God is not just doing stuff because it¹s His job, He¹s not in it for the money or prestige, and He doesn't pay just half-hearted attention to our requests and concerns, but listens and cares with His whole heart, His Sacred Heart!

Let us then have reason for hope, a reason for joy, and a reason to love, because we are loved with love beyond all measure. The living heart of our God in the person of Jesus, loves us.
