Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Psalm 68:29-30, 33-35a, 35bc-36ab
A brief reflection on today's Scripture passages:
Because they do not belong to the world . . . . (see John 17:14)
Believing Christians are in the world, not of it. That is we live our lives in the world, but what we hold to be true, what we value, what we love is beyond the mere sensory things of this world.
We are God's children, drawn to God by this prayer of Jesus just before He gave His life for us. This special prayer helps us to live "beyond the world." When we read this prayer, we come to understand the depth of God's love for us through Jesus Christ, His most ardent desire for us.
God wants us to come to Him. He wants us to bring His children to Him. He wants each of us to enjoy the things of the world, but to use them wisely, always with the understanding that they are given to us to remind us of where home is. We have forgotten the way home and God, in His mercy, points the way through our desires. In this prayer, He seeks to show us how to order those desires properly.
