Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

May 17, A.D. 2007
Please remember, today is a Holy Day of Obligation.

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Acts 1:1-11
Psalm 47:2-3, 6-7, 8-9
Ephesians 1:17-23
Luke 24:46-53

A brief reflection on today's Scripture passages:

Jesus departed from them and was taken up to Heaven. (see Luke 24:51)

Sooner than most of us ever think about, our day of victory will come, and like Jesus, our earthly sufferings will end. In the meantime, are we dealing with our moments of uncertainty with great effort and fear? Or have we chosen to follow the example Jesus set for us in dealing with His last days of doubt, anguish and torment?

Jesus prayed. Through tears and bloody sweat, He turned to Heaven for whatever His Father would give Him to help carry out His arduous plan for Him. Thankfully for all of us, His Father didn't change His plan, but instead blessed Jesus with peace for His moments of overwhelming sorrow. When Jesus fell to the ground and prayed that the hour might pass from Him, His Father filled Him with good things, so He could face His difficult, but triumphant future with courage.

We can imitate Jesus and keep looking in the direction where He gloriously ascended into Heaven--where we'll find all we need to defeat the impossible and carry out God's plan for us.

One day, we too can be the victors. We must pray to our Model of strength Who sits triumphant for all eternity at the right hand of the Father!
