Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Acts 16:1-10
Psalm 100:1b-2, 3, 5
John 15:18-21

A brief reflection on today's Scripture passages:

A man I work with is a Christian and I sometimes use him as my sounding board when faced with tough decisions that have a moral or ethical component. He is much more of an outgoing Christian than I and has no reservation telling others about his faith and beliefs and that he lets his faith guide him in all aspects of his life.

Sometimes this is met with open hostility and other times it is met with a more subtle form of hostility with words such as, “Oh, so you are one of those.” I too have been shocked at the response I sometimes get when I tell others that I am a Christian.

But I must ask myself, “Why does this surprise me so?”

My friend says he is no longer surprised at the responses as he tells me that scripture warned him of this a long time ago. “Let’s face it,” he says, “people mocked Jesus, tortured and killed Him for no real reason and then gambled for his clothes. Why should I expect anything different?”

And my friend is right. In fact the treatment most Christians receive today is mild compared to what it has been at times in history so we have no reason to complain. Our response should always be humble prayer for all whether they welcome us or not, just as our Lord did.
