Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
May 2, A.D. 2007
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Psalm 67:2-3, 5, 6 and 8
A brief reflection on today's Scripture passages:
Whoever believes in me, believes also in the One who sent me.
(see John 12:44-45)
Believing in Jesus isn't only about believing in Jesus. Believing in Jesus is about believing in God the Father who sent Jesus to tell us about Him.
This is the God of the still, the small voice on the mountain with Elijah;
the same God who guided David's hand as he walked among the men at Saul's camp;
the God who sent an angel to wrestle with Job and who parted the Red Sea;
the God who gave the law and the prophets to the people of Israel;
the God who sent the prophet Isaiah to tell His people what a true fast is;
in short, God, our loving Father!
We cannot say Jesus' name, call upon His help, or even look at Him without seeing also the Father from whom He comes. When Jesus is with us, so too are the Father and the Holy Spirit. The Trinity cannot be split--He is one whole, triune God--a deep mystery who is an intimate companion, the lover of every soul.
We cannot speak the name of Jesus without knowing also the love of His Father, our Father.
Amen . . . .
