Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Psalm 106:19-20, 21-22, 23
A brief reflection on today's Scripture passages:
Psalm 106 reminds us to ask God to remember us--even when we've forgotten Him.
That is really what we do when we sin. We forget the way to God's love. "They forgot the God who had saved them."
Especially during Lent, we must remember Jesus' sorrowful journey to Calvary, and that He still suffers when we choose to forget Him. Even worse, our neglect wounds Him a second time. But this psalmist's prayer, "Remember us, O Lord, as you favor your people!" helps us return to Him with confidence, despite our oversights. Jesus' memory is short when it comes to the sins of His children, but His mercy and compassion are endless when we repent and turn back to His love.
"O Jesus, Your painful fall under the Cross and Your quick rise teach me to repent and rise instantly should I ever be forgetful of your love."
