Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

February 8, A.D. 2007

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Genesis 2:18-25
Psalm 128:1-2, 3, 4-5
Mark 7:24-30

A brief reflection on today's Scripture passages:

Happy are all who fear the Lord,
who walk in the ways of God.
What your hands provide you will enjoy;
you will be happy and prosper. (Psalm 128:1-2)

Our actions can never diminish our eternal worth to God. But when we sin, we distance ourselves from God's love. While we may not be always be worthy of God's grace, to Him we are always worth saving. God sent His Son to atone for our sins, and because He freely chose to pay that price, we can conclude that He considered it a fair price. Therefore, we are each of worth to Him and should therefore confidently claim our rightful inheritance as His beloved children. In today's readings, Jesus accedes to the gentile woman and rewards her because of her faith.

The readings offer us practical suggestions to help us understand and remember our eternal worth to God. By choosing to not dwell on our own imperfections, and rather look beyond ourselves, we change the way we see ourselves and the world. By focusing on being kind and generous to others, we not only remind them that they too have worth and are worth loving, but we also discover the goodness that is inside all peoples including ourselves and learn to become more freely loving people. By taking the time to enjoy and appreciate the goodness of God's creation - we acknowledge that God provided all this abundant awe-inspiring beauty because He loves us.
