Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Hebrews 12:1-4
Psalm 22:26-28, 30-32
Mark 5:21-43

A brief reflection on today's Scripture passages:

Do not be afraid; just have faith. (Mark 5:36)

Sin obscures or weakens our faith in the One true God revealed to us in Christ. Today's reading in Hebrews calls us to deepen our faith by first examining our conscience in prayer in the presence of Christ Who is the "leader" and "perfection" of faith, admitting to ourselves how we have sinned and then by grace resolving to obey His word.

Those who are truly faithful to God's Word will face the world's opposition because the "worldly" are at enmity with God's dominion over them and resent anyone who suggests they change their ways.

The Hebrews are told that their faith is not perfected, for as yet they have not been called upon to shed their blood as Christ did for the remission of sin and the world's salvation. Believers in Christ are called upon to make Christ known on earth despite dire reprisals.

Today's Gospel affirms that in God alone resides absolute knowledge, power and love, and the ability to accomplish all that is best for, but impossible to, unaided humanity. We see too, that God's omniscience and omnipotence are released by our belief in Him; He knows how, when and to whom He should direct His saving power.

We are to trust in His guidance, actions and His superior wisdom, even when He will not grant our requests. Faith, a God-given gift, will grow with time as we come to realize that our own choices are not always in the best interests of us or of those involved in our prayers.

Of one thing we may be certain, God always works for the good of those who love Him and also for the good of those whom we love. The good done by Christ's healing of the hemorrhaging woman and His raising of a dead child, touched many more lives than the few immediately involved in His miracles.

O Divine Son of the Father,
faith in your word is the way to wisdom,
to the true fulfillment of our humanity
and to the furthering of God's eternal plan for man's salvation.
