Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

February 22, A.D. 2006

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
1 Peter 5:1-4
Psalm 23:1-6
Matthew 16:13-19

A brief reflection on today's Scripture passages:

In todayıs Gospel, the Lord gives His disciples a test, asking them: "Who do you say I am?" Peter promptly replies:"³You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." From there Peter becomes the rock on which the Lord builds His church.

Jesus tells Peter how blessed he is as this revelation has come from the Father and not through anything Peter learned from others. Peterıs openness to the Spirit of the Father not only revealed great things to him, but also made it possible for him to be the foundation of the Church.

How open are we to the Spirit and to that which God speaks to us -- and, if we are open, are we willing to bear what must come with this responsibility? Peter certainly had no idea what the future would hold for him when the Lord made him the rock of the Church and gave him the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. With blessings from God come responsibilities we must be willing to bear.
