Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

June 12, A.D. 2004

Scripture from Today's Liturgy of the Word:

1 Kings 19:19-21
Psalm 16:1-2,5,7-10
Matthew 5:33-37

A brief reflection on today's Scripture passages:

“Let Your Yes Mean Yes…” Matthew 5:37

Jesus reminds us that we must “…make good to the Lord all that you vow.” Matthew 5:33

Each day our Lord entrusts to us what He wills for us to accomplish or bless back to Him. Our faithfulness in relationships with Him, our spouses and children, those we work with, our neighbors, acquaintances, strangers, and guests are ours to embrace in faith. We give our fiats, confident He will grace us with their resolve. We say “Yes” when we recognize all before us is from Him and see on the altar of our day what we offer back to Him. It is our perseverance and humble efforts that say “yes.”

At the close of the day when we examine our consciences and review the day’s adventure, we discover what good to the Lord we made with our “yes.” The simple labor, the gentle relations, the hope extended, the compassionate suffering with, the injury, suffering and insult we bear with joy are all fiats.

Oh Lord, thank you for the gift of this day and all it brings to me. Help me say “yes” with my life.

A bonus meditation... "Ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning..."

Elijah's call as prophet is our call also. It is a call to obedience, it is a call to courage. It is a call to reliance on God and alliance to God's Holy will.

When we place all of our trust in God, we are trusting He who created the universe. Surely, He can feed us.

Let the Holy Spirit lead you. Listen to the words of the Lord, and be humble. Ask God the way, and it will be shown. Ask God how you can help, and you too will be fed by ravens, and even stranger creatures.

Praise God, for He gives his creation power to serve Him.
