A brief reflection on today's Scripture passages:

To whom much is given, much is expected...... (see: Luke 12:48)

Faith is a God-given gift; to receive it we must desire it and open ourselves to it by consciously suspending our disbelief. God offers us this gift because it is by His "grace through faith that we are saved." (Ephesians 2:8) and God wills all to be saved.

Like all God's gifts, faith is to be dynamic, contribute to God's kingdom by growing like the mustard seed into a large bush, sheltering, providing a home for His creatures. Faith should also be like yeast that spreads throughout the dough, transforming it into nourishing food.

We who are blessed with faith have been given a great treasure we must not hoard nor gloat over in self-satisfaction. Unless we share our faith through loving relationships and a moral lifestyle, it is dead, lifeless instead of life-giving as God intended it to be. For God's gifts aren't given to edify individuals alone. Our faith is given us to fulfill the needs of all Christ's people, the strong strengthening the weak, the rich sharing with the poor, the knowledgeable enriching the uninformed. We are obligated to draw others to Christ through a "lived" faith.

Christians, however, must never try to present themselves as glittering "show pieces," but as totally human, humble people whose minds and hearts have been genuinely transformed in God's love and truth. It is commonly known, "all that glitters is not gold."

Almighty God, fill us with true faith.
May we touch other lives with signs of your love
and awaken in them a hunger for You. Amen.
