Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
July 14, A.D. 2001
A brief reflection on today's Scripture passages:
Do not fear those who can kill the body.... (see Matthew 10:28)
In this age of instant communication, an age so taken up with the
strong overpowering the weak, it is no surprise that many are fearful
for their lives as corrupt government slowly gives more and more
power to evil people. Yet, if we listen to the teaching of the
Master, we learn not to fear physical harm or earthly death, but
instead to fear spiritual death brought about by the world, the flesh
and the devil.
For we who are persons of faith, we who trust in our God who knows
all and cares for all, He who notes even the passing of the smallest
sparrow, certainly this providential God is concerned about our
welfare, both spiritual and material. With this knowledge and with
our deep faith and trust in God, let us remember that God will guide
us, forgive us, protect us, and inspire us in the way of His love.
Let us live from moment to moment in praise and in love of Him and of
all that is holy. Today we honor Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, a native
American whose life gave perfect testimony to the Gospel we read and
meditate upon this day.
I trust in the Lord;
my soul trusts in his word.
My soul waits for the Lord
more than sentinels wait for the dawn. - Ps 129:6 (Douay-Rheims)
