Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

June 28, A.D. 2001

Genesis 16:1-12,15-16
Psalm 106:1-5
Matthew 7:21-29

A brief reflection on today's Scripture passages:

Isn't it easy to praise our God when life is wonderful and everything is going well? But come the crises, oh how the tone changes! Lord, where are You? Why have You abandoned me? You promised to be with me all days! You said you would never give me a cross heavier than I could bear. What's going on? Does any of this sound familiar to you?

The Gospel today tells us of the house built on rock. The house that can withstand all storms and winds that come its way, never wavering under nature's wrath. We, the people of God, can equate our faith life to this solid house built on a solid rock foundation. The sad times, the bad times, the lean times can come along and we know, without a doubt, that our God is bringing us through another valley, but as we lift our eyes there is the mountaintop once again. How does this happen that we can always have hope? It all relates to our relationship with our God and the time we spend in prayer and the sacraments, receiving from Him all the strength that we need and the grace to be faithful to Him, our Savior.

Most Holy Lord, our rock and our foundation,
help us always to know that you are the faithful one,
that You will always be there for us
with Your hand stretched out to help us
out of the valley of darkness
into Your marvelous light! Amen!
