Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
A brief reflection on today's Scripture passages:
"What is man that you should be mindful of him?" (see: Psalm 8:2)
Our greatest comfort as Christians is that once we resolve and
continue to follow Christ by abiding in His word, we need never fear
being alone nor being abandoned by God. Jesus assures us in the
Gospels that to the one who remains faithful, "...we [the Holy
Trinity] will come to him to make Our dwelling with him..."
Then why do we persist in having so much fear, anxiety, conflict and
greed in this world? Perhaps the most basic reason is unbelief born
of a deadly pride. Many think they are alone, with no one to aid,
guide or comfort them beyond those things in this world they can
grasp and hold on to. They conclude they belong to themselves and
therefore have no responsibility to anyone else. "It's every man for
himself." All they gain they attribute to their cleverness and hard
work. They see their talents and abilities not as means of
contributing to the general good, but simply as ways of attaining
money, power, status, property and the world's respect. All glory is
theirs in the "here and now."
God is mindful of humanity because He created us that we might share
His blessed and holy life. His one desire is to love us. And to those
who open themselves to Him, He will come to indwell them to teach,
guide and enable them to fulfill themselves, their humanity,
perfectly. We are not mere flesh and blood creatures, products of a
mindless and heartless cosmic accident. We were created by God and
belong to Him, not as property but as the beloved children of a
Father anxious to share true heavenly riches, His eternal life with
us, not just the perishable things of this world.
Most Blessed Trinity,
reveal Yourself in the depths of our hearts,
that we may faithfully reflect Your truth, goodness and love.
