A brief reflection on today's Scripture passages:
Our city recently hosted a conference on "faith and healing."
Considering myself a man of faith and witness to the great healing
power of Christ, I tuned into a local radio program promoting the
conference all prepared to hear the Good News. I learned that a woman
could tell my fortune by looking at my palm, while another man could
plug my birthdate into his computer and tell me when my "up cycles"
and "down cycles" were. Another woman explained that through her
unique style of meditation mixed with astrology I could experience
heaven on earth. I won't even go into the discussion they had on how
I was to heal myself of all ailments.
Today, Christ warns us that anyone who attempts to enter the
sheepfold in any way other than the gate is a thief and a marauder.
Thieves and marauders. Some things obviously have not changed much in
the past 2000 years. They were around in Christ's time and they're
still here today. And thieves they are! I could experience "heaven on
earth" for a low introductory price.
Christ never charged me a penny. In fact, He still gives to me freely
daily and I couldn't buy His gift if I wanted to. Beware, my friends,
of these thieves with grand promises. There is only one gate to
heaven and only one gatekeeper. He is our Shepherd and His voice is
