St. Philip of Jesus Catholic Church
Just as a building has doors, so to our mind and hearts have 'doors' as well. Open yours as you step within these doors to explore the wonders of this beautiful Church .
Our Lady of Guadalupe
The image of the Virgin of Guadalupe is not only the most revered religious relic in Latin America, but the strongest symbol of Mexican unity. The most important and spectacular celebration in Mexico, takes place on the 12th of December, when millions of pilgrims from all over the country stream into the Basilica, the Virgin's Shrine, to pay homage to Mexico's Patron Saint
Jesus, help me to simplify my life by learning what you want me to be - and becoming that person.
What a wonderful place to pray and meditate on the Word made flesh.
The Virgin Mary, Mother of Our Lord and of The Church.
"For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy." - Saint Therese of Lisieux
As one looks to The Savior of mankind on the cross He beared for our sins, our eyes and hearts are drawn only to Him there for us all..
Our Lord is present waiting for souls to come to Him in His ever giving mercy in the Eucharist - the heart of ourlives and world as Catholics .The Bible and the Lord's Supper
Kneeling before the tabernacle, I can think of only one thing to say to our Lord: "My God, you know that I love You." And I feel that my prayer does not weary Jesus; knowing my weakness, He is satisfied with my good will.
Saint Therese of Lisieux
All Catholic Churches have an 'assent' or steps leading up to the altar. This is suggestive of so many elements in sacred history as well as the call to us all to 'ascend' toward heaven by seeking to live holy lives.
Icons representing the 14 Stations of the Cross surround the nave. These are a work of art in their simplicity and beauty. The life like figues stand out as a reminder of what Our Lord sacrificed for all of us . As we look upon these works of art our hearts and minds should be drawn to God in prayer.
Apart from the cross there is no other ladder by which we may get to heaven.
St. Philip of Jesus
Born in Mexico, date unknown; died at Nagasaki early in February, 1597
St. Philip was beatified in 1627 by Urban VIII, and, with his companions, canonized 8 June, 1862, by Pius IX. He is the patron saint of the city of Mexico.
When the faithful are nourished by the Eucharist, they are called to share that grace as light to the world.
The miraculous image produced on the apron or tilma of Blessed Juan Diego is rich in symbolism. The aureole or luminous light surrounding the Lady is reminiscent of the "woman clothed with the sun" of Rev. 12:1. The light is also a sign of the power of God who has sanctified and blessed the one who appears.
This statue of Jesus and His sacred heart is calling to you with open arms.
In honoring the Heart of Christ, our homage lingers on the Person of Jesus in fullness of His love.
In any of these photos, or in your next visit to a church - stop, look and listen. Ponder the Cross. Pray to hear what the Lord might be saying to you through a Station of the Cross, a picture or statue of His blessed Mother, an angel or saint. What do you see in their eyes? Do you see a look of humility? Are their feet bare or in sandals? Every statue or photo can have an amazing richness of messages. This is why, for centuries, the Church used sacred art to teach the people - especially before reading became common. Today, when the graphic arts have become powerful means of influencing people, isn't it fitting that we look to spiritual art to inspire us to lead lives pleasing to God?
